MANUAL WINDOW CONTROLS

Manual window controls have  great environmental credentials as once installed they require little maintenance and draw no electricity. You achieve a double benefit, firstly of helping the environment by reducing electric usage and then also having those monetary savings!

OVERVIEW OF MANUAL WINDOW CONTROLS

This type of installation can also have large cost savings should your windows be in large banks of over four windows. Manual control controls can operate openings of up to six metres depending on the proportions and style of installation.

The controls that we install are surface mounted for ease of servicing. There are old systems that are fitting into the wall, however should there ever be a problem with the installation often the entire wall needs to be pulled apart to fix the problem. To overcome the visual intrusion that can be associated with the surface mounted system many of the parts can be colour matched to your individual project to reduce the intrusion that they may cause.

The hand winders that are the operational mechanism can be placed at a level suitable for the installation. For a wheelchair friendly project the winders would be mounted much lower than those in a placed in sports hall. These would be placed above a level where they could be hit by a running player to ensure safety of the individual and the ongoing use of the equipment.

The pictures attached showcase our manual window controls which can be utilised in almost any home or building. This range of equipment only requires a yearly service to ensure everything is working in a functioning order.

SE CONTROLS CHAINHEAD T100

Chainheads are for single or group operation of high level windows. The chain opener can be fitted to most styles of aluminium, timber, or steel windows using the appropriate fixing brackets.

Controlled from a wall mounted operator connected via lengths of conduit and inner cable to the chain opener the window is operated via the chain.

Depending on height limitations, awnings can be opened 250mm or 380mm, with suitable openers. A very flexible system, as the conduit can be bent to go around pillars and other obstacles, using the special bending tool and fixed to the wall or framework with saddle brackets.

To allow for the forwards and backwards movement of the inner cable, a length of “spent travel” conduit, must be fitted at either end of the control path i.e. past the last chain opener and below the operator.

The current generation of chainheads can be installed with the body running in either direction so that the handle position can occur where necessary.

SPECIFICATION: The high level awning sashes are to be controlled with the use of the Chainhead T100 and Midi Winder operating system.

Each chainhead is to be constructed of a powder coated cast aluminium housing and is to be linked together with other chainheads and Midi winders by way of a drawn 10mm anodised aluminium tube. The aluminium tubing is to be custom bent on site and attached to the wall using two piece plastic standoff clips to ensure the neatest fit is achieved.

The drive gears and chains are to be of 316 stainless steel. The internal drive is to be a helical worm drive steel cable and be installed in a manner so no amount of cable is to extend from the tubing when at full stroke.

All fixings are to concealed inside the winder housing and the window fabricator is to pre punch a hole in the fly screen adapters to allow the chain to pass through section.

Chainhead T100 and Midi Winders are supplied by Unique Window Services (07) 3265-5771.

SE CONTROLS MIDI WINDER

The Midi Winder is suitable for a domestic situation or commercial applications as the handle is removable. The removable handle has proven to be very useful in situations where the control of the windows needs to be limited for either security or misuse reasons.

What separates this winder from others on the market, and makes it appropriate for the above, is its lower profile and ease of action.

The winder takes less effort to operate due to its low-geared internal drive mechanism, as compared with some of its competitors.

The winder’s casing has a lower profile (depth from the wall) than other products of a similar function, therefore reducing the intrusion of internal spaces of the home.

The casing also serves to keep the run over of the cable contained, providing a much ‘cleaner’ end result than its predecessor and protecting passers by from the cable.

TORQUE ROD

The ‘Torque Rod’ system has stood the test of time, with few necessitated changes since the first design nearly 50 years ago!

The use of this type of system is suited to large bays of louvred or awning windows that are above head height. This is a particularly cost effective way to control windows where there are more than four banks of louvres or awnings per window bay. Torque rod is effective in lengths of up to six metres and can control as many banks of windows in that space as is required.

With only one electric actuator needed to control one length, torque rod can allow huge openings to be controlled by very few motors thus saving on running costs. It also means that with one wall switch a wall of windows can be opened or closed immediately.

If an even more environmentally friendly system is your preference, then when combined with a manual winder, torque rod would use no power once installed to allow the passive ventilation of your space.

SPECIFICATION: The high level awning or louvre windows are to be grouped together in banks and be operated with the use of the Unique Window Services Torque Rod System.

The system is to consist of a 22mm diameter x 2mm thick wall steel tube which is to capped on each end using nylon tube closures. Two piece self lubricating nylon bearings are to attach the torque rod to the window sill with two high tensile mounting screws through into the frame.

Torque drive arms are to be of a compression cast aluminium material and be locked in place on the torque rod by way of two concentrically located locking screws. Torque arms are to connect to awning sashes or louvre drive arms with 316 stainless steel linking arms and also be held in place with two locking screws.

Torque rod is to be used in conjunction with the UWS MDCR Winder and is available from Unique Window Services (07) 3265-5771

UWS MDCR

The MDCR operator is a heavy duty manually operated winder. They are available with stroke lengths of 150mm on the MDCR.

With an option to link with either a torque rod system (for louvres or awnings) or to chainheads (for awnings), windows with or without flyscreens can be catered for.

With the environmental impact of projects taking on a higher priority within the design passive ventilation is a consideration that should be undertaken. Not only for the comfort of the occupants but to decrease a reliance on mechanical air conditioning.

Allowing for the control of high level windows via a manual winder would allow the rising hot air to escape without the need for the use of any electrical means.

The MDCR is suitable for the use in any commercial or industrial application, particularly in schools. Available with removable handles and designed not to allow overwinding in both directions, no matter the level of use, you can be assured of smooth functioning.

Having a slimline design the winder will have a minimal impact on the interior design and can be placed in the most convenient or out of sight position, as desired.

SPECIFICATION: The high level windows are to operated using the UWS MDCR.

The winder is to be a powder coated three piece cast aluminium housing measuring 44mm in width so as to fit onto a commercial glazing mullion and 238mm in height containing a stainless steel internal drive shaft and two compression cast aluminium bevel gears. The winder handles are to have the option of being fully removable or permanently fixed with a self lubricating nylon winding knob.

All methods of fixing are to be concealed inside the winder housing. For winders mounted in high traffic areas it is recommended the winder heights be 1800mm AFFL.

The winders are to be used in conjunction with the Sliding End Assembly as a stand alone unit for the control of single bay windows. Or in conjunction with the Torque Rod System for the control of multiple bays of windows. Winder system is supplied by Unique Window Services (07) 3265-5771.
